When it snows make Ice Cream!!!

The other night at mutual the girls wanted to make homemade ice cream so I found Grandma Shaw's ice cream recipe and made it the night before. I have not made home made ice cream for a long time and thought I would just be able to walk down in the fruit room and find the ice cream freezer maker. I looked and looked and could not figure out where it was and I even got Mr. Jones in on the hunting. He looked everywhere as well and was not able to find it either. Because it was the night before I was kind of running out of time, I had to work the next day so  I had to hurry and find it or we wouldn't have an activity for the next night. I started looking on the internet to see where I could possibly buy one. But all I found was some ice cream makers which you had to put the bowl in the freezer over night, which I wouldn't be able to do since it was 9:00 pm and everything was closing and I would have to run clear to Logan to get one. I could order one but it would take 3-5 days to have it delivered and they were about $200.00. Mr. Jones said ,"I will call Stokes (our neighborhood grocery store in Preston) and see if they have one." I being quite pessimistic about there ever being one at Stokes said, "There is no way they would have one." Ryan was ignoring my negative attitude and got the phone book and looked up the number and started talking to someone at the store.  After waiting for about 5 minutes for the person to look and get back on the phone, I listened to his responses and then he said, " You do have one." " How big is it?" It is a big one , okay we will be over to get it." I thought he was joking when he got off the phone but he said they had one.  So I got dressed and went to Stokes to get it. Yes, they had one and it was only $34.95, WHAT A BARGAIN!! especially because I needed it right NOW!

So, when I got home I poured the ice cream in the container and put it in the fridge overnight.( the above picture really isn't me because I deleted the pictures I took by mistake.) I had some great pictures of the girls eating their home made ice cream and those got deleted as well)
Here is the recipe.

Grandma Shaw’s Vanilla Ice Cream

4 c. milk
 ¼ tsp salt

4 eggs
2 T. flour

2 c. sugar

Mix ingredients together in a large pan and bring to a boil. Remove from stove and add 2 c. cold milk plus 2 cups of whipping cream (or you can add 1 quart of half and half.) and then add 3 T vanilla. Cool down in refrigerator for a couple of hours. Freeze in ice cream freezer. Frozen fruit may be added for flavoring, such as peaches, strawberries, etc. When using fruit omit 2 cups of milk and just add 2 cups of fruit. When using peaches, add ¼ t. almond extract. Makes one gallon of ice cream!

It was delicious!! So if it snows make Ice Cream!!! (It snowed today)

Some new ideas at Easy Peasy

Check out the new blog at the top of the side bar and click on Easy Peasy Grandma!

Wii are so competitive

First of all I had to show these cute little cowboy boots that I found at the DI. I am starting to get a collection of them because when all of the boys are here they all want to wear a pair. I finally found a small pair that will fit the little cowboys in our family so I had to have Lincoln model them. I think the favorite pair though is still the "red cowboy boots" because it seems those are the first to be picked every time they come. If you look close you can see that Tydon has that pair on.Isaac and Mary came up on Saturday night to do something fun for the last day of Spring Break and so we ended up having a Wii tournament. We ended up golfing, bowling, and obstacle coursing it until midnight. (we didn't realize it was that late until we stopped to take a break.) Then Isaac and Mary stayed overnight and went to church with us.
Oh, and we had the best sandwiches from a new place in Preston it's called The NewYork Deli, the sandwiches are delicious!
Nate, Rachel, Kace and Tydon came up on Sunday afternoon and we continued the competitiveness. Hula hoop, ski jumping, bubble balancing, chicken flying and snowball fighting completed our competition downstairs.  Then we decided we should play Mille Bornes so we taught Isaac and Mary how to play that fun card game. I didn't have any pictures of the card game but I wished I could have had pictures of Kace giving a wink and a tongue click trying to alert his Dad of the cards he had. (Nate and Kace were partners.) Also a picture of Rachel's looks of (if looks could kill) to Nate when he would play a bad card on our hand. (Rachel and I were partners.)  Also the look Mary would give Isaac when he would tell her, "I guess I am going to have to win this game, ALL BY MYSELF!" (Isaac and Mary were partners.) But it was all in fun, (well I think it was.)Kace has inherited somebody's great competitiveness, (I wonder where he got that from?)
It was a fun couple of days and yes, Wii are very competitive!!!

I did it

I have been asked many times if I had a place on the web where someone could look at things I have made. So I finally decided to make another site for people to look at items to purchase and find ideas to do different crafty things. On Saturday I was with Isaac and Mary at the Preston Alumni tournament and Mary was wearing the crocheted hat I made for her birthday. A lady wanted to know where she got her hat and she told her I had made it. The lady gave me an order for a hat and a headband. Mary is the best advertisment I have. She said that she has worn the hat many times this last week and has been stopped and asked where she got her hat, sooo I made another blog and you can check it out here.
I got the idea for the name from little Evan, when I was out to Rainee's for McKenly's birth I heard the words Easy Peasy Grandma several times. After finished his chore of cleaning the bathroom I asked him if he had finished doing his job of straightening up the bathroom and he replied, " That was easy, peasy, Grandma!"  While playing wii and trying to show me how to play Star Wars, I would comment on how well he was doing and he would reply, "This is easy, peasy grandma!"
Most of the projects I try and do are not very hard and when they are I just think, Oh, easy, peasy, I can do this!" (If it only was that easy.) and just keep trying until I can figure it out. So, that is the name of my new site Easy Peasy Grandma.
I have been busy this winter making hats, shoes, and headbands so hopefully I can keep up now that the weather is getting warmer. Are there any of you out there that want to learn how to make these easy, peasy hats?

Happy Birthday Mary!!

We celebrated Mary's birthday last night. We had fun eating, talking, being entertained by Lincoln and Tydon, and just telling stories. We had yummy chicken enchilada's, salad, Rachel's yummy salsa cream cheese dip, and then Mary decided she wanted Pistachio torte so we made that and used that for her birthday cake.( It is delicious by the way.) Isaac put one candle in the cake and it was so funny to watch Lincoln try and blow the candle out. First Tydon blew it out and then Lincoln decided he wanted to try. He was kind of making the movements with his lips but he couldn't quite figure out the blowing part so he just had a little spit coming out and just kept trying. Mary finally helped him out and he was so excited and started clapping for himself. Tydon and Lincoln entertained themselves for most of the night and were best buds in the toy room. I felt bad for Kace though because he wasn't feeling well. Rachel had taken him to the Instacare and they had diagnosed him with strep so Rachel had given him his antibiotic and he slept on the couch most of the night. (Sorry, bud that you weren't feeling to well.)
We have had the week of sickness in our family. Last Sunday Rainee was sick and then that night they had to take McKenly to the ER and she has been in the hospital all week with RSV. Also Carson came down with something last night. WE are sick and tired of being SICK! So we are praying for health for everyone and hope that Spring is on it's way and will clear all of this sick air out of the sky.
I am glad that Mary is feeling better because she just got finished with a bout of strep. Happy Birthday Mary, you are the best Mom, wife, daughter, and friend anyone could ask for. WE love you!!!
