You may not know but I live with a legend! Mr. Jones was a starter on the 1971 State basketball team at Weber High. You may not think that this is a big deal but as you can see by this banner that hangs in the Richard Connelly gym at Weber High, that team was the last team to win state. It kind of is sad that they haven't had a team take state since then. They have had some come very close but they have not taken the championship.
Now I'm not trying to live in Ryan's glory days but I do want to put this story down for our posterity so if you get tired of reading about it you can just stop reading. So, here goes and "warning" there are a lot of pictures!
This above picture was the 1971 State basketball team.
They went 13-0 that season.
I don't know if Ryan would like to see someone drive past him but this was in the paper so I thought I would include it.
It was a fun season to watch, and I didn't miss a game.
I especially liked watching number 35.
In the semifinal game Ryan separated his sternum but with a good shot of cortisone before the final game he started and finished the game. The story of the 5 inch long needle that went into his chest will have to come later, (I really need him to tell it because it was so traumatic for him.)
number 35
Reaching for the rebound.
D_E_F_E_N_S_E!
He has a beautiful jump shot, I have always liked watching him shoot the ball.
On Thursday night the 2013 team had the 1971 team for dinner at Weber High.
All of the families were invited and it was so fun to see so many people from 41 years ago.
(Did I say, 41 years!, man we are old!)
Just watching them catch up on old times was fun, This is Ryan, Mark Hodson, Kirk Dickamore, Rich Haws, and Ron Buhrley.
Mark Hodson is really getting into it!
The team members that were there from back row, left to right: Greg Montgomery, Richard Haws, Chad Green, and Dennis Montgomery is kind of hiding. Front row: Ron Buhrley, Coach Jerry Coggins,Ron Montgomery, Mark Hodson, Kirk Dickamore, and Kevin Lewis.
Some of our family, love these guys!
Rachel and cute little Treagan!
sorry Jessica, you totally look like you wish you were somewhere else but thanks so much for bringing me in the huge snowstorm. (It took us 2 hours to get to the dinner.)
Here is Ryan telling another Jones about how they came back from 17 points at the half to win the State game. The tall player is Jordan Jones and he is on this year's team and they look like they might just be the next state champions.
this is Richard Haws wife, Ron Buhrley, and Rich Haws mother listening to one of the many stories.
On friday night they had sectioned off a section for the team and their families, Go WEBER!
It was kind of fun to watch these boys and there reactions to the game.
At halftime they honored the team.
The wife of the principal is still living and so is the wife of coach Connelly so they came out on the floor as well.
They had made shirts with all of there numbers on them, and here they are.
number 35, Ryan Jones!
There are a lot of pictures but this is for those that didn't get to come. WE missed you Mel!
McKenly has found her tongue.
Intently watching the game.
At the end of the game they had the team come back down and sing the school song with them. I think they do this after every game.
Good Old Weber.....
The team was very nice to us, they are a great bunch of guys!
Some of these are out of order sorry.
Ryan with the "floor general" Ron Buhrley!
and here is one of the great "floor generals", love you Dad!
